Seeing a Mustang at the front of a NASCAR Cup Series race is nothing new, but the one leading the initial parade lap at the NASCAR All-Star Race turned heads for a different reason. The North Carolina State Highway Patrol brought out one of their new Mustang GTs to lap alongside the official Mustang Dark Horse pace cars as part of a recruiting initiative and a powerful example of what happens when performance meets purpose. When selecting a vehicle to meet their demanding daily needs, the NCSHP partnered with the Ford Pro team to develop a custom solution. One key requirement: the ability to accelerate and brake repeatedly at high speeds without compromising performance. The Mustang GT delivered. On this day, 61 years ago, automotive history was made when the Ford Mustang was unveiled at the New York World’s Fair. A symbol of power, freedom, and a bold spirit, Mustang has won over enthusiasts across the globe since its debut. The first year of its sales, Mustang shattered expectations, setting an industry record by selling over 418,000 cars in its first year. And from that moment, it never let off the gas. Just months after its unveiling, it claimed a class win at the 1964 Tour de France Automobile in its racing debut.
